North Texas Food Bank Reports Record $5M in Donations

DALLAS — The North Texas Food Bank announced Tuesday it has received a record-breaking $5 million in donations during its annual holiday campaign, surpassing last year's total by nearly 40% and marking the organization's most successful fundraising effort in its 40-year history.

The milestone comes as food insecurity continues to affect one in six North Texans, according to the organization's latest data. The donations, collected between November 1 and December 31, will help provide approximately 15 million meals to families across the 13-county service area.

"This incredible outpouring of generosity shows the true spirit of our Dallas community," said Maria Rodriguez, the food bank's director of development. "These funds will make a tangible difference for families struggling to put food on the table, especially as we head into the new year when donation levels typically decline."

The campaign received support from across the metroplex, with major contributions coming from corporate partners, local foundations, and individual donors. Notable donation drives were held in neighborhoods from Highland Park to Oak Cliff, with community organizations hosting food drives along Central Expressway, in Deep Ellum, and throughout the Bishop Arts District.

Local business owner James Thompson, who operates Faith Auto Glass Dallas on Forest Lane, organized a month-long customer donation drive that raised over $8,000. "We see customers from all walks of life every day, and we know how many families are struggling right now," Thompson said. "When someone comes in for windshield repair, they're already dealing with unexpected expenses. We wanted to help our neighbors who might be choosing between fixing their car and buying groceries."

The North Texas Food Bank, headquartered near Fair Park, distributes food through a network of more than 200 partner agencies across North Texas. The organization has seen a 25% increase in demand since 2022, with working families representing the fastest-growing segment of clients.

Distribution Efforts Expand

With the record funding, the food bank plans to expand its mobile pantry program, adding three new trucks to serve rural communities in counties like Hunt, Kaufman, and Rockwall. The organization also announced plans to extend operating hours at its Plano and Arlington distribution centers.

"Food insecurity doesn't take a break, so neither can we," Rodriguez added. "These donations allow us to meet people where they are and ensure that zip code doesn't determine access to nutritious food."

The food bank continues to accept donations year-round through its website and at collection points throughout Dallas-Fort Worth. Volunteers are also needed at the main warehouse on Mockingbird Lane, with shifts available seven days a week.
